Milton B. Guhr
Milton B. Guhr, 77, passed away at his Newton residence on
Wednesday (May 13, 2009), after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He
was born on Aug. 11, 1931, in Marion County, the son of Birkholtz G. and Eva
(Goertz) Guhr. He farmed, then later delivered RVs and freight, then worked at
his son's company making wood stakes. On Sept. 27, 1953, he married Ruth Ann
Brandt at Gotebo, Okla. She survives of Newton. He was a member of Emmaus
Mennonite Church, sang in several men's quartets, and was active with Gideon's
International.
He also is survived by his sons, Michael and Lynette of
Newton, Randall and Joan of Ponca, Ark., and Leslie and Lyndsey of Newton; six
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brothers, Otto and Martha of Potwin,
and Adolph and Elda of Newton; his sisters, Rose Flaming of Peabody, and Edna
and Silas Stucky of Elbing; and sisters-in-law, Linda Guhr-Ediger of Hesston and
Melinda Guhr of Newton.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Jonathan, Samuel,
Daniel, Arnold and Lydia Guhr.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lamb Funeral
Home in Whitewater, with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m.
Committal service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Emmaus
Mennonite Cemetery in rural Whitewater. Celebration of Life service will follow
at 11 a.m. at Grace Community Church in Newton.
