Shirley I. Goodwin
Shirley I. Goodwin, 75, died Wednesday (April 8, 2009) at
Kansas Christian Home in Newton.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1933, in Fredonia to Charles Calvin
and Verna Opal (Housely) Osburn. They preceded her in death.
She married George Goodwin, and he survives of the home.
Shirley served her country in the U.S. Navy. She was a
member of the Baptist church. She was a retired secretary for the chemistry
department at Wichita State University. Shirley also was a member of the
American Legion, where she served as past commander.
She enjoyed gardening and sewing. She also enjoyed the
company of her many pets. Shirley greatly looked forward to spending time with
her loving family and many friends.
Other survivors include son, Edward and Delia Goodwin of
Oceanside, Calif.; daughters, Debbie Cherry of Pittsburg, Ruth and Kevin Rose
of Oceanside, Dani and Donald Jones of Pittsburg, and Kelly and Jeff Taylor of
Wichita; brother, Douglas and Phyllis Osburn of Newton; sisters, Bonnie and
Russell Slater of El Dorado, Marilyn and Sylvestor Posch of Lawrence, and Nancy
and Yog Raj Sehgal of Texas; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one brother, Charles
Calvin Osburn Jr.; sisters, Dorothy L. Cromer, Georgiana R. Eldridge, Betty J.
Williams and Tamera Osburn; a daughter, Joni Webster; a granddaughter, Vanessa
J. Harper; and a grandson, Gabriel Webster.
Private family inurnment will be at a later date at
Grandview Cemetery in Wilson County.

care of Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main St., Newton, KS 67114.
