Dan Gordon
Obituary
Dan Scott Gordon, 65, of Newton, passed
away Monday (Feb. 19, 2018) at his home, surrounded by family, after
a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 15, 1952, in Council
Grove, on his brother's birthday, to Leland and Alberta (Wilkerson)
Gordon. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1972 and served until
October 1974.
Dan spent the last 44 years with his
best friend, Marla, and 38 years working as a conductor, brakeman and
engineer for the Rock Island, Santa Fe and Burlington Northern Santa
Fe railroads.
Dan loved telling stories based on
fact. He was an avid collector and never missed Jayhawk basketball.
He was preceded in death by his
parents.
Dan is survived by his wife, Marla, of
the home; daughters, Kasey Newell and husband Josh, and Danna Gordon,
all of Newton; grandsons, Camdyn and Braxtyn Newell of Newton;
sister, Linda Duncan and husband Bob of Abilene; brother, John Gordon
and wife Susan of Lakewood, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews and
friends.
Memorial services will be held at 1
p.m. Monday (Feb. 26, 2018) at Council Grove First Congregational
Church UCC, 400 Main St., Council Grove, with an inurnment following
at Sunny Slope Cemetery.
