Doris Kellenbarger Wenger
Doris Kellenbarger Wenger, widow of Dr. Arthur Daniel
Wenger, died in Raleigh, N.C., on March 1, 2009, at the age of 88.
Mrs. Wenger was born on April 14, 1920, in Bucklin and moved
at an early age to Newton with her mother and father, Frank Jafy Kellenbarger
and Beulah Blanche (Sorem) Kellenbarger.
Mrs. Wenger was a graduate of Bethel College in North
Newton, with graduate work in speech and drama at Denver University, after
which she taught English and social studies at Newton High School during the
mid 1940s.
She left Newton in 1946 to accompany her husband to Fort
Worth, Texas, where he entered seminary at Texas Christian University. Dr. and
Mrs. Wenger devoted their lives to ministries in the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) and in Christian higher education, particularly during
their 20-year tenure at Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in
Wilson, N.C.
Mrs. Wenger was predeceased by her husband and her oldest
son, Arthur Frank.
She is survived by sons, Jon Michael of Raleigh and Mark
Randolph of Williamsburg, Va.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Wenger's funeral services were conducted on March 5 at
First Christian Church in Wilson, N.C., with burial in Maplewood Cemetery.
