Carolyn M. Rice
Carolyn M. Rice, 73, of Emporia, died Saturday (April 18,
2009) in Wichita.
She was born on May 19, 1935, in Denver to Bernard and Emma
E. (Zubrod) Hallacy. They preceded her in death.
She married Leo R. Rice on April 5, 1953, in Newton. He
preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Emporia and a past member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society and
United Transportation Union Auxiliary. She had been a den mother for Boy
Scouts, a Girl Scout leader and past secretary at Horizon Plaza.
Survivors include son, Joseph A. 'Butch' Rice of Lawrence;
daughters, Pam Weathersbee of Phoenix, Sue McKeown of Cheney, and Brenda
Geerinckx-Rice of Geel, Belgium; seven grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren.
Wake service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, followed by visitation until 8:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Interment will be at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
