Laura A. Deschner
Laura A. Deschner, 89, died Sunday (April 26, 2009) at
Asbury Park Greenhouse No. 1.
She was born on Oct. 7, 1919, in Boise, Idaho, to Earl Guy
and Irene (Foster) Hunter. They preceded her in death.
On April 19, 1937, she married Henry Deschner in Peabody. He
preceded her in death.
Laura was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton
and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She volunteered at Asbury Park and enjoyed spending time
sewing, crocheting and embroidery. Laura also painted and tended her garden and
flower beds.
Family was very important to Laura, and she greatly looked
forward to spending time with her loving family and many friends.
Survivors include daughter, Katherine Nickell of Burrton;
son, James Deschner of Iowa Hill, Calif.; sisters, Joanne Hill of Wichita and
Margaret Spence of Evansville, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and 27
great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Hunter;
sisters, Yvonne Nethercot, Wanda Mason and Ramona Cox; and son, Louis Deschner.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home chapel, with Pastor Jay Anderson of First United Methodist Church
officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Asbury Park Greenhouse
No. 1 in care of the funeral home.
