Max Herbert Graber
HESSTON - Max Herbert Graber, 81, died
Friday (Jan. 6, 2006) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. He was born
Feb. 10, 1924, to Herman R. and Selma Louise (Voran) Graber in
Kingman. They preceded him in death. He married Arnita Banker June 8,
1947, in Salina. She survives of Hesston. He was a member of Trinity
Heights United Methodist Church, Newton Health Care Corporation
Board, the Lions Club, the Newton Medical Center Board, Western
Retail Hardware Association and the Chamber of Commerce, and he
served in many other organizations through the years.
Max was the owner of Graber's Ace
Hardware. He served on many boards in the Newton community and was
elected the Newton Citizen of the Year. Recently, he had served as a
Harvey County Commissioner from 1997 to 2004.
Max served his community through many
civic positions. He was a strong family man and found great happiness
in his grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Other survivors include: sons, Tim
Graber and wife Melanie, and John Graber and wife Nancy, all of
Newton, and Scott Graber and wife Peg of McPherson; daughters, Sarah
Graber of Rowayton, Conn., and Cathy Flocks and husband Sam of Van
Burean, Ark., sisters, Mary Esther Loganbill and Anne Converse, both
of Newton; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m.
today at Petersen Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m.
Thursday at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church with the Rev.
Phil Fischer officiating.
Memorials have been established with
the Trinity Heights United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund and
Memorial Garden Fund, both in care of the funeral home.
