Sarah A. 'Sally' Seery
Sarah A. 'Sally' Seery, 90, a lifelong Newton
resident, died Tuesday (March 3, 2009).
Born Jan. 11, 1919, near Hesston, Sally and her
parents, brothers and sisters moved shortly thereafter to Newton, where they
owned and operated the Spencer Dairy on Old Main Street for several decades.
After graduating from Newton High School in 1937,
Sally worked for Kansas Gas and Electric, where she met her future husband,
Bill Seery, leading to their marriage in June 1942.
While raising her family, Sally lived on East
Broadway from 1950 to 1996.
After the death of her husband, Sally worked for
more than 20 years at Ross Industries' (Cargill) flour mill and enjoyed working
with the many wheat farmers in the Newton area.
Sally and friends enjoyed informal meetings of their
'club,' which was formed in 1949 and continues today.
Surviving are her sons, Ronald Seery and his wife,
April, of Enterprise, Ala., and Spencer Seery and his wife, Kathy, of Gold
Canyon, Ariz.; sisters, Mary Anderson of Blairsville, Ga., and Virginia Rumplik
of Young Harris, Ga.; five grandchildren, Bill Seery of New York, N.Y., William
Seery of Enterprise, Jackie Bird of Lawrence, George Raburn of Littleton,
Colo., and Mark Raburn of Parker, Colo.; eight great-grandchildren, including
Margaret Carter of Newton, Marge Spencer of Newton, Gladys Spencer of Wichita,
and Larry and Pat Rahal of Andover; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daisy Dean
and Oliver Spencer; and brothers, Eugene, Donald and Robert Spencer.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at
Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral
home, with the Rev. Jim Anderson officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Christian Home in care of the funeral home.
