Elmer P. Zehr
Elmer P. Zehr, 88, died
Wednesday (Feb. 4, 2009) at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born Jan. 19,
1921, in Bright, Ontario, Canada, to Emanuel and Emma (Brenneman) Zehr. He was
a teacher, restaurateur, and insurance business owner and operator. He married
Violet Bender on Oct. 27, 1942, in Tavistock, Ontario, Canada. She preceded him
in death in 1991 after 48 years of marriage. He then married Emily Hughes in
January 2005 in Hesston. She survives of the home.
He was a member of Hesston
Mennonite Church and a former member of the Lion's Club, the Gideons, and
Kiwanas.
He also is survived by his
children, Farrel James (and Jan) Zehr of Highlands, N.C., Paul Elmer (and
Nancy) Zehr of Modesto, Calif., Carol Anne (and Ronald) Brown of Shawnee, Wanda
Yvonne (and John) Doig of Plain City, Ohio, John Marlin (and JoAnn) Zehr of
Harrison Valley, Pa., Dennis Jay Zehr of Kansas City, and Timothy Wayne (and
Kim) Zehr of Inman; brother, Edward Zehr of Woodstock, Ontario; sisters,
Elizabeth Zehr of Tavistock, Ontario, and Dorothy Bechtel of Kitchener,
Ontario; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death
by a brother, Austin Zehr, and a sister, Ada Yantzi.
Visitation with family
present will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home in Hesston.
Burial will be at 10 a.m.
Monday at Eastlawn Cemetery in Hesston, followed by funeral service at 11 a.m.
at Hesston Mennonite Church in Hesston, with Pastor John Murray, Pastor Cheryl
Hershberger and Pastor Fred Obold officiating.

made to Habitat for Humanity in care of the funeral home.
