Dorothy Margaret Friesen
Dorothy Margaret Friesen, 89,
of Hesston, died Feb. 14, 2009, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
Dorothy was born on June 27,
1919, in Beatrice, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Marie Goosen Wiebe. They
preceded her in death.
She graduated from high
school in Beatrice.
She married Abraham K. Friesen
on Aug. 22, 1945, in Beatrice. They moved to Hutchinson, where they lived for
the next 56 years. Four daughters - Judy, Karen, Arlene and Jane - were
joyfully welcomed into their home.
Dorothy had been a patient
representative at Grace Hospital in Hutchinson, which encompassed the duties of
both chaplain and social worker. Her care for others was shown by her work in
her church, managing the Et Cetera Shop, and leading a support group for
Hospice.
Dorothy and Abe moved to
Schowalter Villa in 2003. Abe died on Feb. 9, 2004.
She was a member of First
Mennonite Church in Hutchinson and associate member of Hesston Mennonite
Church.
Survivors include her four
daughters, Judy Williams and husband, Tim, of Spokane, Wash., Karen Franz and
husband, Rod, of Manhattan, Arlene Schmidt and husband, Wilbur, of Newton, and
Jane Friesen and husband, Kelvin, of Archbold, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.
Dorothy also was preceded in
death by two brothers, Carl Wiebe and John Wiebe; and two sisters, Alma
Linsenmeyer and Helen Wiebe.
Memorial services will be at
2 p.m. Saturday at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
Private family interment was
conducted at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
A memorial has been
established with Schowalter Villa.
