Martha Mae Turner

Martha Mae Turner, 87, died Tuesday (Feb. 17, 2009) at Salem Nursing Home in Hillsboro. She was born on Jan. 31, 1922, in Monrovie, the daughter of James and Carrie (Lamberson) Donovan. They preceded her in death. She married Merle W. Turner on Feb. 12, 1955, in Wichita. He preceded her in death. Martha had been a self-employed technician of aircraft instruments for many years. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. Martha always enjoyed helping others, as well as crocheting, gardening, sewing and many other things on her own.

Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Hamm and her late husband, Delbert, of Newton, Kay Carr and her late husband, Billy Castleberry, of Newton, and Terrie Scudder and husband, Harold, of Waller, Texas; seven grandchildren, Christina Stewart and husband, Mike, David Peaney and wife, Kristine, Carrie Casper and husband, Brian, Russell Carr and wife, Teresa, Roger Carr, Daniel Scudder and wife, Megan, and Brian Scudder and wife, Pat; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick.

A memorial fund has been established with the Salem Nursing Center Dietary Department in Hillsboro or Caring Hands Humane Society in Newton. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
