Ruth M. Schope
Ruth M. Schope, 92, passed
away Sunday (Feb. 8, 2009) at Presbyterian Manor in Newton. She was born on
Oct. 14, 1916, in Otis, the daughter of Elizabeth (Steitz) and Jacob Roenfeldt.
They preceded her in death. She went to a country school and graduated from the
LaCrosse High School. Ruth also taught school at a one-room schoolhouse near
Rush Center. On June 5, 1935, she married Walter Schope at Hope Lutheran
Church. They were married 68 years. Ruth and Walter moved to Newton in May
2000. Walter died May 28, 2002.
Survivors include her
children, Wayne Schope and wife, Janice, of Warsaw, Ind., and Gloria Ochs and
husband, Vincent, of Newton; five grandchildren, Cheryl Ochs Wheeler, Lesa
Redger, Michelle Tanner, Wayne Schope II and Dr. Betty Jo Schope; and 13
great-grandchildren.
Ruth also was preceded in
death by one sister, Mable Holopirek, and a grandson, Brent Ochs.
There will be no visitation
in Newton.
The visitation will be at 10
a.m. Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church in rural Albert. Funeral services will
follow the visitation at 11:30 a.m. at the church.
Burial will follow in Peace
Lutheran Church Cemetery.
