Robert 'Bob' Dean Sowards
Robert 'Bob' Dean Sowards,
76, of Eucha, Okla., passed away peacefully Saturday (Feb. 14, 2009) at Freeman
Heart Institute in Joplin, Mo., with his son, Mike, at his side. He was born
Aug. 6, 1932, at home in Sharon to Luther and Ruth (Myers) Sowards. They
preceded him in death. After graduating from Sharon High School in 1950, Bob
served in the Navy and later worked in the oil fields in Wyoming, Texas and
Barber County in Kansas. He lived in Newton during the 1960s and worked for The
M.R. Stauffer Construction Co. Bob retired as the owner and operator of A&B
Magneto Repair Shop.
He was affectionately known
as the 'Magneto Man.' He retired to Grand Lake, Okla.
Survivors include sister,
Linda and Henry Neufeld of Newton; brother, Luther and Mary Sowards of St.
Louis; son, Mike and Cindy Sowards of Wichita; daughters, Alice and Yvonne;
stepson, Paul and Jackie Totty of Sharon; and numerous nieces, nephews,
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and
great-great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to
5 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in
Newton.
Graveside service will be at
2 p.m. Thursday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton, with Pastor John Otto
officiating.
Memorial contributions may be
made to Caring Hands Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
