James L. Church
James L. Church, 72, of
Newton, died Friday (Jan. 2, 2009) at Newton Medical Center. He was born Dec.
22, 1936, in Newton to Alpha and Zella (Byerly) Church. They preceded him in
death. He married LaFonda Brown on Jan. 3, 1985, in Newton. She survives of the
home. He was a 1954 graduate of Newton High School and served his country in
the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. James retired from United Airlines as a ramp
attend in 1991 after 32 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked
at Newton Wal-Mart until 2004.
James greatly looked forward
to spending time with his loving family and many friends.
Other survivors include
daughters, Monica and Barry Ramsey of Sedgwick and Molly Prockish of Arizona; son,
Burnie and Debbie Church of Maryland; and five grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death
by a brother, Melvin Church.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends
from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 2
p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with Chaplain Bill Regier of
Newton Presbyterian Manor officiating.
A private family burial will
be conducted.
