WYNN PHIPPS
1935 - 2018
Obituary
Wynn Bedford Phipps, 82, passed away
peacefully on Monday (March 19, 2018) at Asbury Park in Newton, among
his family. He was born on July 18, 1935, in Newton to Walter and
Faye (Lewis) Phipps.
Wynn was a retired retail business
owner. Wynn and his wife, Lorene, enjoyed spending time traveling to
see friends and relatives. Wynn loved seeing his family and traveled
to Wichita and Utah many times for holidays, weddings and birthdays.
Wynn and Lorene took several motorcycle and car road trips, seeing
all parts of the United States. He spent the last few years working
in his shop and garage tinkering either on the '62 Ford Falcon or
with several motorcycle projects.
Wynn loved family gatherings and while
he was fighting cancer, he was still able to travel to Colorado in
June 2017 for the family reunion of both of his daughters' families.
While there in Colorado, he was escorted by his sons-in-law, grandson
and great-grandsons to the trails that he used to ride back in the
'70s and '80s for a last look at the place that held such great
memories for him, Deckers, Colorado. Anyone who met Wynn can tell you
that he was a respected, good man, an excellent storyteller, an
accomplished businessman and, most of all, a family man. He will be
so missed by his family and friends.
Wynn is survived by his wife of 63
years, Lorene of Concordia; daughters, Connie Pickens (Randy),
Wichita and Jeri Nielsen (Shawn), Tooele, Utah; sister, Jacque
Porter, Newton; four grandchildren: Kim Woods (J.R.), Carri Pickens
(Jason Swain), Megan Chartier (CJ) and Taylor Nielsen (Gretchen); 11
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; and brother, Duane Phipps.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests
memorial contributions be given to Harry Hynes Hospice of Newton or
to the Rebecca A. Morrison House of Salina, in care of Petersen
Funeral Home.
