Ruth E. McKanna
NEWTON - Ruth E. McKanna, 92, went home to be with
her Lord on Dec. 10, 2008, at Asbury Park, Newton, Kan. She was the daughter of
Mary Alice Landis and Clayton Habacker. She was born in Abilene.
On March 3, 1938, she married Alfred D. McKanna in
Salina. Ruth was a member of Salem United Methodist Church for 70 years. She
was very active in church circles, with the United Methodist Women and as a
member of the Double Duty Sunday School.
While her children were in school, she served as the
PTA president at McKinley School. Ruth served as a leader while her daughters
were in Girl Scouts. She also served as a Den Mother for her son, Sonny, while
he was in Boy Scouts. Ruth and Alfred were Easy Stepper square dancers and
Golden Circle Campers.
Survivors include: two daughters, Barbara Lyne and
husband Ron, Hutchinson, and Dorothy Zellers and husband Roger, Wichita; 11
grandchildren; and 21 great- grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Alfred D.;
daughter, Dona Pieri; son, Alfred C. "Sonny"; sister, Dorothy
Habacker; two brothers, Howard and Walter Habacker; and her parents, Mary Alice
and Clayton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday,
Dec. 15, 2008, at Salem United Methodist Church, Newton. Pastor Sherry Clemens
and the Rev. Roger Megli will be presiding. Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, and 1 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial
will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton. Memorials may be made to Salem
United Methodist Church, Asbury Park or Harry Hynes Hospice, all in care of the
funeral home.
