Kevin C. Deruy
Kevin C. Deruy, 49, passed away Dec. 1, 2008, at
Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha, Neb.
He was born Feb. 21, 1959, in Pittsburg.
Kevin was a 1977 graduate of Newton High School and
a graduate of Bethel College, where he earned a degree in social work. He was a
social worker for the state of Kansas.
Kevin was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Newton.
He enjoyed spending time gardening and doing
yardwork. He also enjoyed relaxing fishing. Kevin had a soft spot in his heart
for children and animals. He looked forward to spending time with his many
friends and loving family.
Survivors include his mother, Connie (Muse) Shirk of
Newton; father, Gerrel Shirk of Newton; brothers, Kurt Deruy of Carthage, Mo.,
Ken Deruy of Peck, Cory Shirk of Chicago and Brett Shirk of Westfield, N.J.;
several aunts; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at
Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
Funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the
funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Mainzer of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton
officiating.
A private family inurnment will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Hands
Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
