Lidio 'Lito/Frank' G. Jaso
Lidio 'Lito/Frank' G. Jaso, 92, of Newton, passed
away Thursday (Dec. 18, 2008) at Newton Medical Center, surrounded by his
family.
Mr. Jaso was born on Aug. 3, 1916, in El Paso,
Texas, the son of Magdaleno and Maria (Garcia) Jaso. They preceded him in
death.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in
Newton, and he participated frequently in Diocesan Masses and played his guitar
at the church. He was a member of the Eagles Club. He retired from the ATSF
after a lifelong career. Lidio and his wife, Hope, owned La Tapatia Restaurant.
Frank had a longtime love for music. He was a
well-known musician and band leader in the Newton area for many years. He was a
member of the dance band orchestra called Lito Jaso and the Latineers. He
organized the Mariachi Juvenil 'Tol Tec,' he taught music to numerous children
in the community and surrounded himself with a big circle of musician friends.
Frank enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals
baseball team and was the pitcher for the El Rey fast-pitch team.
He married Maria Esperanza 'Hope' Lujano on Sept.
28, 1940, in Newton. She preceded him in death.
He also was preceded in death by his brothers,
Pedro, Nick, James and Mike Jaso.
Survivors include his daughters, Jennie Kelly and
Cecilia L. Contreras, both of Newton; six grandchildren, Frank Fields, Julie
Janzen, Jody Sutherland, Jeannine Garnica, Melanie Smith and Eric Kelly; and 17
great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his sisters, Raymunda Florez and
her husband, John, of Newton, Lucy Gomez and her husband, Gregory, of Overland
Park, Belen Estrada of Newton, and Katherine Ornelas and her husband, Don, of
Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday at
Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, with the family present from 2 to 4
p.m.
A rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Our
Lady of Guadalupe Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m.
Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, with Father Juan Garza as celebrant.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in
Newton.
