Mary Lou Dean
Mary Lou Dean died on Friday (Dec. 19, 2008) at her
home in Newton.
She was born on Nov. 11, 1938, in Florence, the
daughter of Mary Elizabeth (Waner) Malek-Creamer and John Ernest Malek.
On Dec. 24, 1954, she married James 'Jimmy' Lee Dean
in Newton.
Mary Lou was a member of Columbus Avenue Church of
Christ in Newton.
Her hobbies included gardening, decorating and
cooking. She enjoyed being the hostess for many dinners with her family and
close friends. Mary Lou included many of her friends as part of her family.
She was raised and attended schools in the Newton,
Florence and Wichita areas. During her lifetime, she was primarily a homemaker,
but she also worked as a shipping clerk and an assembly worker.
Survivors include four daughters, Debra Phares and
husband, Michael, of Oxford, Barbara Naegele and husband, Calvin, of Newton,
Teresa Fishback and husband, John, of Andover, and Gloria Newsom and husband,
Michael, of Wichita; 12 grandchildren, Jason Phares, Megan McCune, Sean Phares,
Chris White, Gabrielle Simon, Gloria Fishback, Shawn Fishback, Stacey Fishback,
Natasha Newsom, Nina Newsom, Layna Landers and Tammy Southern; numerous
great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Lassley of North Newton; and brother, Jack
Malek of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her
spouse, Jimmy; brothers, Billy Creamer and Dick Malek; and sister, Sandra
Smith.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at
Columbus Avenue Church of Christ in Newton. The family will have a greeting
time at the church at 9 a.m. prior to the service on Friday.
Burial will be at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in
Newton.
