Ruth Zook
Ruth Zook, 85, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday
(Dec. 23, 2008) at her residence in Newton with family at her side.
She was born Feb. 6, 1923, in Rosthern, Canada, to
Rudolph and Mathilda (Schmidt) Janzen. They preceded her in death.
On May 5, 1944, she married Robert Zook. He preceded
her in death.
Ruth was baptized in 1942 at Grace Hill Mennonite
Church in Whitewater and has been an active member since that time.
She was a homemaker and worked in several
restaurants prior to opening her own restaurant. For 23 years, she owned and
operated the Cedar Village Restaurant in Newton. She enjoyed cooking and
entertaining for family and friends. She also enjoyed working with flowers in
the summer and doing needlework in the winter.
She is survived by a son, Jim and wife, Evelyn, of
Newton; daughter, Darlene Buller of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Bob
Janzen; sister, Edna Lawson; and brother-in-law, Eugene Koehn.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at
Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8
p.m.
Committal service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at
Grace Hill Mennonite Church Cemetery in Whitewater, followed by funeral service
at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial
contributions be made to Grace Hill Mennonite Church or Hospice Care of Kansas
in care of the funeral home.
