Geneva Basore
Geneva Basore, 95, died Tuesday (Dec. 23, 2008) at
Halstead Place Assisted Living Center in Halstead.
The oldest child of Leonard Henry and Edith (Brower)
Simpson, she was born on the farm near Towanda.
She attended Pleasant Ridge School and was a member
of Central Baptist Church on the banks of Santa Fe Lake. She graduated from
Augusta High School and attended Central Commercial College, where she met
Charles Basore.
Geneva and Charles married Aug. 25, 1935, in Augusta
and made their home two miles south of Bentley. He died June 23, 1993.
She was a member of Bentley United Methodist Church
and the TAO Club, both of Bentley. She then joined First United Methodist
Church in Halstead and was a member of Chapter AK PEO in Halstead and Kansas
Flying Farmers.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Larry)
Williams of Halstead; a son, Richard (Susan) Basore of Bentley; seven
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Sue
Basore; brothers, Virgil and Norvall Simpson; a sister, Nadine Tarman; and a
half-brother, Cecil Dunkin.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at
Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First
United Methodist Church in Halstead, with the Rev. Jennifer Whitt presiding.
Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in
Bentley.
Memorials may be given to Halstead Historical
Society in care the funeral home.
