Alma Harms Enns
Alma Harms Enns, almost 96
years old, has been expectantly waiting to go to Jesus. She died of natural
causes on Nov. 12, 2008, at Bethesda Home in Goessel, a place where she felt
very comfortable, loved and content. Alma was born on Dec. 27, 1912, in
Fairbury, Neb., to John L. and Elizabeth Rempel Harms. She received Christ at
age 12 and was baptized by the Rev B.O. Kroeker in Jansen. Neb. Alma married
Edward Enns on May 5, 1935, at the EMB Church in Meade. He preceded her in death
on Jan. 11, 1977.
She was the last to survive
of her 12 brothers and sisters.
Alma and Ed had two children,
Marilyn Joyce Schrag and Marjorie Jane Hamm; eight grandchildren; and 17
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by grandson, Stanley Hamm, and
son-in-law, Loren Hamm.
Alma was an artist who
painted landscape oil pictures and gave many as gifts. She was organist and
pianist in churches where Ed was pastor. She taught Sunday School, directed
ladies' choruses and choirs in Gridley, Ill., and Hooker, Okla. She taught many
children's flannel-graph lessons during worship and Sunday School.
She gave piano lessons much
of her life, also playing harmonica and accordion. In later years she played
piano at retirement/nursing homes as inspiration to the residents. She played
piano at Bethesda Home within the week before she died.
Alma has been an active
member for many years at East Side United Methodist Church in Newton, where she
sometimes played piano and organ, taught children's stories, and experienced
warm love and caring from the church family.
Alma was a good cook; pluma
moos was a favorite. She was a stylish lady.
There will be a memorial
service of praise and thanksgiving Sunday at East Side United Methodist as part
of the Thanksgiving Sunday morning service before the Thanksgiving Dinner.
There will be a burial
service and meal at 11 a.m. Monday at the EMB Church in Meade, where Ed is
buried.
Memorial gifts may be given
to East Side Church or Wycliffe Bible Translators.
