Erletta R. Weyand

Erletta R. Weyand died Wednesday (Nov. 19, 2008) in Newton. She was born on Oct. 23, 1932, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Mathilda (Ratzlaff) and Aaron Willems. Erletta married Elmer A. Weyand on June 13, 1953, in Rose Pine, La. He preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2007. Erletta was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Newton and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary of Hillsboro. Erletta was very patriotic and held strong to her patriotism. Erletta was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was devoted to her husband, Elmer, and cared for him dearly in their 54 years of marriage. She was loved and will be missed greatly by her family, and also her extended family.

Erletta was a true advocate and was always willing to help anyone with their problems, no matter how big or small they might have been. Erletta was the neighborhood mom and always had an open door to any of the neighborhood kids who needed a mom.

Erletta's hobbies included quilting and sewing. She was the seamstress for her daughters when they married, sewing each one a wedding gown. She also loved cooking, and her family voted her zwieback as No. 1.

In the evenings, she enjoyed taking long drives with her family. The destinations of the drives would vary, but the return route home always would include driving by a couple of her friends' houses, just to make sure everything looked OK.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her beloved husband, Elmer.

Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Lubbers of Leavenworth, Geraldine and Vernon Epp of Newton, and Shirley and John Esau of Walton; brother, Calvin, and wife, Bonnie, Willems of McPherson; sister, Phillies and husband, Roy Stern of Goshen, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
