Noel Tomlin
Noel L. Tomlin, 89, was born
July 27, 1919 in Salina to Bernice R. (Beaudry) and Guy L. Tomlin. Noel went to
meet his Lord on Monday (Oct. 6, 2008) at the Good Samaritan Center in Parsons.
On Jan. 26, 1950, Noel married Marjorie (Waring) Tomlin in Wichita. She
preceded him in death. Noel enlisted in the Army in 1942. He was discharged as
a master sergeant. He then enlisted in the reserves and was promoted to warrant
officer. He served as assistant Corps finance officer, 10th Corps, Korea. He
was discharged on Nov. 20, 1952.
Noel received numerous medals
and awards, including the Bronze Star and a Presidential Unit Citation. He was
a member of Newton Masonic Lodge No. 142, the Wichita Consistory and the
American Legion.
Noel retired from the Santa
Fe Railroad as a district supervisor.
As general MacArthur once
said, 'Old soldiers never die - they just fade away.' Noel has not died. He
just faded away.
He also was preceded in death
by a son, Noel Louis Tomlin, and his parents. Noel is survived by several
nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to
9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main St. in Newton, with the
family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
A graveside service will be
at 2 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial donations may be
made to the Good Samaritan Center in Parsons in care of the funeral home.
