Boyd J. 'Cotton' Paulson
Boyd J. 'Cotton' Paulson died
Thursday (Oct. 9, 2008) at Robert J. Dole Veteran Hospital in the Hospice Care
Center in Wichita. He was born to the late Emmett and Lillian Rhoades Paulson
on Aug. 7, 1925. Cotton was one of 10 children. He spent his youth between a
home in Newton and the family farm east of Elbing. Boyd attended McKinley
Elementary School in Newton, The Lone Star Country School, Whitewater High
School and Kimper Military Academy in Booneville, Mo. Cotton served in the Army
from 1943 to 1955 in Europe, Japan and Korea. He loved his country and served
as an honor guard at funerals for a number of years in Newton. He was a member
of VFW Post No. 971.
Everyone who knew Cotton knew
of his love for fishing. Sometimes he would just catch the fish and stock
someone's pond.
You would see his beloved
truck with his American flags flying as he drove around Newton.
He is survived by his sister,
Phyllis Roberts; two sons, Boyd and Lynn of Texas; a cousin, Bernice Paulson;
and his favorite nephew, Richard 'Rick' Roberts.
He was loved dearly and will
be missed by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and his
abundance of friends.
A memorial service will be at
11 a.m. Monday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton. His ashes will be
scattered at a small service on the Paulson Farm east of Newton.
