Lee M. Davis Jr.

Lee M. Davis Jr., 67, of Newton, passed away Thursday (Sept. 11, 2008) in Newton. He was born Nov. 12, 1940, in Emporia to Lee M. and Ruth (Hickox) Davis. He was a 1958 graduate of Emporia High School. He attended Emporia Teachers College for two years, and then began his career in the railroad. He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad after 40 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1967 during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed golf and was a very good bowler. He bowled three perfect games during his lifetime. He was a fan of K-State football and was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Davis of Newton; son, Scott Davis of Rowland Park; and daughter, Allison Davis of Lenexa.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lee M. Davis.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family greeting friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton, with the Rev. John Goering of Eastside United Methodist Church in Newton officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Hands Humane Society or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home
