W.G. 'Dub' Williams

W.G. 'Dub' Williams, 73, passed away Thursday (Sept. 18, 2008) at Asbury Park Healthcare in Newton. He was born Dec. 19, 1934, in Heavner, Okla., to Jessie James and Eva Mae (Rice) Williams. They preceded him in death. On April 20, 1973, he married Linda A. Franz in Newton. She survives of the home in Newton. Dub was a retired dispatcher for the Santa Fe Railroad, and he also drilled water wells in the Newton area. He was a member of First Christian Church and the former  Elks Club, both of Newton.

Dub collected antique gas engines. He enjoyed gardening and country music. He was known for his good singing voice and yodeling ability. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his loving family and many friends.

Other survivors include stepsons, Terry and Susan Unruh of Wichita and Gary Williams of Charlotte, N.C.; stepdaughter, Gail Unruh-Revel and Harry Revel of Newton; sister, Jessie Mae and Glenn Lazalier of Hillsboro, Tenn.; daughter, Eva Parker of California; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He also was preceded in death by a stepson, Lanny Unruh; brothers, Carl Delbert Williams and Willie Edward Williams; and sister, Arlene McHenry.

Book signing will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Newton, with Pastor Gary Bell of the church officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or Asbury Park in care of the funeral home.
