Adelia (Klassen) Frey
Adelia (Klassen) Frey, 87,
passed away Monday (Aug. 4, 2008) at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton.
She was born March 14, 1921,
in Hillsboro to Frank H. and Katherine (Krause) Klassen. They preceded her in
death.
Adelia married Edward H. Frey
on Jan. 14, 1972, at First Mennonite Church in Newton. He preceded her in death
on Jan. 21, 1989.
Adelia was a lifelong
resident of Newton. She worked for 33 years as a secretary and receptionist for
the Mennonite Weekly Review. Adelia was a member of First Mennonite Church of
Newton, where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She also was a member of
The National Secretary's Association.
After retirement, Adelia did
extensive volunteer work at the Et Cetera Shop and Mennonite Central Committee.
Survivors include sister,
Myrta Bartel of Hillsboro; stepson, Marlin and Deane Frey of Newton;
stepdaughters, Earla Critchfield of Hesston, and Nyla and Duane Chambers of
Wichita; stepdaughter-in-law, Luetta Frey of Goessel; nephews, Ronald and
Brenda Bartel, Marlin and Cheryl Bartel, Douglas and Pam Bartel, and Bradley
and Rita Bartel, all of Hillsboro; niece, Kathleen and Joe Zimmerman of Harper;
and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews,
great-nieces and great-nephews.
She also was preceded in
death by a stepson, Raymond Frey.
Visitation will be from 1 to
5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family greeting friends
from 2 to 4 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 11
a.m. Monday at First Mennonite Church of Newton, with Pastor Clarence Rempel
and Pastor Joan Boyer of the church officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood
Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial contributions may be
made to First Mennonite Church or Kidron Bethel Village Nursing Home in care of
the funeral home.
