Obituary

Paula Beth Cornelius, 56, of Newton, died Tuesday (April 24, 2018) at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Unit of Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

She was born on June 7, 1961 in Newton, the daughter of Harold Newton and Daintee Bee Higgins Porter. Paula was raised in Newton, graduating from Newton High School in 1979. She graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield in 1983 and later from Vanderbilt College School of Nursing in Nashville, Tennessee.

Paula had worked at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita before going to work at Wesley Medical Center where she was an R.N. in the Critical Care Unit for 26 years.

She was a leader for Girl Scout Troop No. 40197 in Haysville and also worked as a nurse for SANE/SART as well as being an avid Royals fan.

Survivors include her son Steven Cornelius of Norton; mother Daintee Porter; sisters Suni Mock and husband Cliff of Wichita, Tammy Buss and husband Jason of Wichita, and Kerri Resser of Newton; 15 nieces and nephews along with 13 great-nieces and nephews.

Paula is preceded in death by her father, Harold Porter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (April 28, 2018) at the United Methodist Church in Walton. Interment will be in the Walton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening between 6 and 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with the N.I.C.U. of Wesley Medical Center, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
