Erna E. Penner
Erna E. Penner, 95, passed
away Thursday (Aug. 21, 2008) at Kidron Bethel Healthcare in North Newton.
She was born July 15, 1913,
in Beatrice, Neb., to Daniel David and Sara (Wiebe) Penner. They preceded her
in death.
She was an active member of
Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton, where she was involved in
the Bridge Builders Sunday School class and Lydia Circle.
She graduated from Atwood
High School in Atwood in 1931 and from Bethel College in North Newton in 1937.
She received her master's of library science degree from Denver University.
She taught high school at
Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kan., and Moundridge High School in
Moundridge.
She also was the librarian
for Kansas City Community College, where she retired in 1983 and moved to North
Newton for her retirement years.
Erna greatly looked forward
to spending time with her many friends and loving family.
Survivors include brothers,
Clyde and Lois Penner of Littleton, Colo., and Herbert and Jo Penner of Omaha,
Neb.; sister-in-law, Elda Penner of North Newton; and several nieces and
nephews.
He also was preceded in death
by brothers, Orville Penner, Donald W. Penner and Paul E. Penner; and sister,
Geraldine Coffman.
Visitation will be from 1 to
5 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
Funeral service will be at 11
a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Heights UMC, with the Rev. Phil Fischer of the church
officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood
Cemetery Columbarium in Newton.
Memorial contributions may be
made to Trinity Heights UMC or the H.D. Penner Scholarship Fund at Bethel
College in care of the funeral home.
