Phil Kloster
Obituary
Philip "Phil" Kloster was
born in Mason City, Iowa, on Nov. 27, 1944. He passed away on April
29, 2018, at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Dallas following a
short illness.
Phil grew up in Forest City, Iowa, and
graduated from Forest City High School in 1963. He went on to attend
Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota, and graduated with
a bachelor's degree in business in 1973.
After graduation, Phil taught in the
Forest City schools. He soon decided to become involved in city
management. He was City Manager for a number of cities including
Wayne, Nebraska; Newton; and Seagoville, Texas. In 1999, he decided
to once again return to education and taught at the Dallas
Independent Magnet School, Townview, until his retirement. He
continued to teach part-time at Tarrant County Community College
until his death.
Phil most of all loved his family. The
father of six enjoyed all kinds of sports activities with them and
later with their children. He loved golfing, camping and watching
sporting events; especially the Dallas teams – except the Cowboys.
Phil is survived by his wife, Merryl of
Mansfield, Texas; children: Brenda Bruneau and husband Glenn Bruneau
of Omaha, Nebraska; Stephanie Winter and husband Kendall Winter of
Peabody; Greta Sandoval and husband Jesse Sandoval of North Newton,
Shannon Kloster of Olathe, Paul Kloster of Dallas and stepdaughter
Julie Moss and husband Josh Moss of Mansfield, Texas. He is survived
by 11 grandchildren: Grant, Carter and Mason Bruneau, Olivia and
Isabel Sandoval, Zach Stephey, Mya and Adyson Winter, Linden Brewer,
and Braydon and Raylen Moss.
Phil was preceded in death by his
parents, Paul and Mina Kloster; as well as his daughter, Courtney
Kloster.
A special thanks to the ICU and Medical
staff of Mansfield Methodist Hospital, especially Dr. Daisy and Dr.
Tiu. Also a special thanks to the Medical ICU staff and Medical staff
of Baylor Scott and White Hospital (Truett), especially Dr. Huang and
Dr. Simon.
A celebration of life will be held at
11 a.m. May 19, 2018, at Mansfield Funeral Home, 1556 Heritage
Parkway in Mansfield, TX 76063. Visitation and gathering of friends
will be from 10 to 11 a.m. May 19.
In lieu of flowers, family has
requested donations be made to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital.
