Helen Eula Wilson

Helen Eula Wilson, 94, of Oxford, died Aug. 15, 2008, at her daughter's home in Halstead. She was born Nov. 11, 1913, on the family farm in rural Oxford to Frank and Nellie Parker Vollweider. She attended Kellogg Country School and graduated from Winfield High School in 1931. She was united in marriage to Harold L. Wilson on Aug. 11, 1935, at her parent's home. The couple lived in Plains and Preston before moving to their new home on the farm in Oxford. Helen enjoyed being a farmer's wife on the farm near Oxford. They had three children. Harold preceded her in death in 1987, a year after they celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Helen lived on the farm until she was 89 and then moved to Halstead Health and Rehabilitation to be close to her daughter, Marcia. The last 9.5 months of her life she had moved in with her daughter, Marcia.

She loved flowers and plants and was a wonderful cook. She also enjoyed her loving family and friends very much.

She was a member of the Mother's Club in Oxford and Merrymakers Club in rural Winfield. She was an active member of Oxford United Methodist Church. Helen was a former Sunday school and Bible school teacher.

Traveling was enjoyable for Helen and Harold. Travels included trips to Canada, Hawaii, Mexico, England, Germany, and cruises on the Rhine River and Alaska.

Surviving to honor her memory are her daughters, Marcia Wilson of Halstead, Dorothy Ottery and husband, Steve, of Dublin, Ohio; grandchildren, Larry Wilson of Manhattan, Rusty Wilson and wife, Kathy, of Manhattan, Blaine Thomas of Halstead, J.D. Ottery of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Trent Ottery and wife, Jamie, of Delaware, Ohio; sister, Irene Rose of Lawrence; great-grandchildren Abby Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Katie Wilson and Weston Ottery; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Harold Wilson, in July of 1987; her son, Kenneth L. Wilson; and her brother, Ramon Vollweider.

Funeral services were Aug. 21 at Oxford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bob Connelly officiating. Interment was at Mount Vernon Cemetery in rural Winfield.

A memorial has been established with Oxford United Methodist Church. Contributions can be left with or mailed to Oxford Funeral Services, 104 N. Main, Oxford, KS 67119.
