Evelyn
Alexander, 87, of Newton, passed away Wednesday (July 2, 2008) at Newton
Medical Center.
She was born
Sept. 8, 1920, in Porum, Okla., to Byron Fitch and Ella Mae (Loudermilk)
Conover. They preceded her in death.
On Aug. 17,
1967, she married Robert Alexander in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death on
Sept. 18, 2002.
Evelyn was
an active member of Community Church of God in Newton, where she was a member
of a Bible study group.
She greatly
enjoyed sewing and ran her own seamstress shop. She was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Newton.
Evelyn
enjoyed helping people and greatly looked forward to spending time with her
loving family and many friends.
Survivors
include daughter, Debra Anshutz of Charleston, S.C.; son, Mike Gordon of
Wichita; sister, Lois Pate of Ft. Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She also was
preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Hodges, and a son, Fred Ramsey Jr.
Visitation
will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
Funeral
service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Sandy
Killfoil of Community Church of God officiating.
Graveside
service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial
contributions may be made to the Kansas State University Center for Basic
Cancer Research in care of the funeral home.
