Obituary
Mary D. Gatz, 90, passed away on
Saturday (May 12, 2018) in Emporia.
Mary was born April 5, 1928, in Clonmel
to Balthazar and Katherine (Goerings) Lies.
Mary was married on May 22, 1956, to
William Francis Gatz at St. Mary's Church in Newton. They were
married for 43 years prior to his death on May 4, 1999.
Mary and William lived and worked on a
farm. Mary also worked at Hehr Midwest for almost 15 years.
Mary loved to garden and work with
flowers. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and hunting with her husband.
She was a good-hearted and generous person who enjoyed life and
celebrating it.
She is survived by her children: Bill
and Valerie Gatz, Annette and Steve Taylor, and Cheryl and Kevin
Byrne; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.
The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will
be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday (May 14, 2018) at St. Mary's Catholic
Church of Newton. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 2 p.m.
Tuesday (May 15, 2018) at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Following the
mass, a committal service will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic
Cemetery in Newton.
