Norma Jean
(King) Graf Carson, 78, of Newton passed away Saturday (July 12, 2008) at her
home.
She was born
March 24, 1930, in Eureka, the daughter of the late William Allen and Alma
Lucille (Thornton) King.
Norma
attended grades first through eighth in Cunningham and was a graduate of Pratt
High School in 1948. She was a resident of the Pratt and Coats area from 1951
until 2005, when she moved to Newton.
On Nov. 12,
1951, she married Alban Graf in Ness City. He preceded her in death on Nov. 26,
1970.
On March 24,
1973, she married Guy Carson in Natrona. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13,
2000.
Jean worked
for Southwestern Bell Telephone, starting in Pratt, then transferring to
Wichita. She retired after 32 years of service in May 1983. She was a member of
The Telephone Pioneers of America, she was also a member of the Pratt and
Newton Lions Club. She volunteered at RSVP of Pratt and Newton, Newton Medical
Center and Caring Hands Humane Society.
She is survived
by a daughter, Denise Church and husband, Gary, of Newton; two brothers,
Delbert 'John' of Bartlesville, Okla., and Stanley of Wellington; two sisters,
Clara (Belle) Christensen of Wichita and Alma (Colleen) Oller of Langdon; and
three grandchildren, Amy Church and fiance, Julian Curiel Jr., and Joshua
Church and Amanda Richardson, all of Newton, and Jim Denio of Pratt.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Ward;
and three brothers, William 'Bill,' Robert 'Bob' and Edwin King.
Visitation
will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with family greeting friends from 6 to 8
p.m., at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road in Pratt.
Service will
be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the mortuary with John Hamm presiding.
Burial will
be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt, with the Rev. Jim Dieker presiding.
Memorials
may be made to South Wind Hospice Home in Pratt or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice
in Wichita, all in care of the mortuary.
