Elnora C.
Baxter was born Sept. 2, 1922, to Ralph and Grace (Van Houten) Gates. She
passed away on Sunday (July 13, 2008) at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.
Elnora
graduated from Whitewater High School and shortly thereafter, went to work for
Hanlin Supply Co. in Newton, and later American Flours. In 1970, when Cargill
purchased American Flours, she transferred to Wichita. She retired in 1984.
She married
Howard Baxter in 1943, and they enjoyed many happy years together. In
retirement, they traveled frequently in their RV to Colorado, Texas and Arizona.
Howard passed away in 2003.
Preceding
her in death, in addition to her parents, were two brothers, Paul Gates of
Hugo, Okla., and Carlton Gates of Newton.
She was a
member of First Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star in Newton.
Services
will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Newton.
Memorials
may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas or Harvey County Caring Hands Humane
Society in care of the funeral home.
