Christabel
Smith, 94, of Moundridge, passed away Friday (July 11, 2008) at Newton Medical
Center in Newton.
She was born
July 2, 1914, in Anderson County, Ky., to William and Lily (Morton) Mountjoy.
They preceded her in death.
She married
Frank Smith on Aug. 3, 1936, and he preceded her in death in 1979.
Christabel
was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella, both in
Newton.
She worked
as a nurse aide at the former Bethel Home for the Aged in Newton.
Christabel
enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She also enjoyed spending time reading and
listening to country music. Christabel looked forward to spending time with her
friends and loving family.
Survivors
include daughter, Kay Smith of Newton; son, John Smith of Albuquerque, N.M.;
one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She also was
preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Schirer; four brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation
will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
Funeral
service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev.
Jim Mainzer of the church officiating.
Burial will
be at Restlawn Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial
contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Food Bank or Our Lady of
Guadalupe Food Bank in care of the funeral home.
