Marie J.
Wiebe, 74, passed away Friday (July 11, 2008) at Kidron Bethel Health Care in
North Newton.
She was born
May 20, 1934, in Anshun, China, to Eugene and Winifred (Kopp) Crapuchettes.
They preceded her in death.
On Dec. 22,
1956, she married Ken Wiebe. He survives of the home.
Marie
attended Wheaton College and earned her bachelor of science in nursing. She
taught nursing at The University of Kansas Medical Center and taught and
trained others to teach Bible studies.
In the late
1970s, she earned her theology degree at Fuller Theological Seminary and became
a pastor in the Evangelical Covenant Church. She and her husband planted a
Covenant Church in Comerillo, Calif., where they lived for 30 years. Marie
loved being a pastor and spiritual counselor.
She was an
active member of Grace Hill Mennonite Church in Whitewater, where she taught
Bible study and mentored to teenagers.
Marie was a
vibrant person and enjoyed beauty and color as evidenced in her art, jewelry and
clothes. She enjoyed music and singing and also expanding her knowledge with
reading. She greatly looked forward to spending time with her many friends and
loving family, especially her grandchildren.
Other
survivors include son, Matt Wiebe and Lori Andrews of Santa Fe, N.M.;
daughters, Heidi Wiebe of Topeka, Margo Wiebe and John Franz of Denver, and
Bekkey Wiebe and Kevin Yoder of Denver; brother, Bruce Crapuchettes of
Altadena, Calif.; sister, Joanne Bartel of Ithaca, Wyo.; and five
grandchildren.
She also was
preceded in death by a brother, Chuck Crapuchettes.
Visitation
will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family
present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Graveside
service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Hill Cemetery in Whitewater,
followed by funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Hill Mennonite Church, with
the Revs. Jim Voth and Kathryn Goertzen of the church officiating.
Memorial
contributions may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Grace Hill
Mennonite Marie Wiebe Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
