Mildred E. 'Mickey' Schmidt
Mildred E. 'Mickey' Schmidt,
78, died Wednesday (June 4, 2008) surrounded by her loving family at Harry
Hynes Memorial Hospice at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis
campus in Wichita after a long brave battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 28,
1930, in Newton to Earl and Elizabeth (Kater) Wright. On Sept. 24, 1949, she
married Bernard Schmidt in Newton. He survives of the home. Mildred was a
member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the VFW Ladies
Auxillary, all of Newton. She retired as a PBX operator at the Santa Fe
Railroad. Mildred loved to spend time tending her flower and rose gardens, as
well as cooking and caring for her family. She greatly looked forward to
spending time with her many friends and loving family, especially her
grandchildren, who were very dear to her.
In addition to her husband,
Mildred also is survived by two sons, Thomas Schmidt and wife, Debi, and
Terrance Schmidt and wife, Laura, all of Lawrence; two daughters, Monica
Thompson of Dallas and Jodi Stowell and husband, Todd, of Park City, Utah; a
sister, Norma Jean Minner of Goldsboro, N.C.; five grandsons, Kristopher
Schmidt, Collin Schmidt, Bradley Schmidt, Evan Schmidt and Tyler Thompson; and
four granddaughters, Taylor Thompson, Bailey Stowell, Brynnah Stowell and Terra
Thompson.
She was preceded in death by
her parents; one son, Tracy Patrick Schmidt; and two sisters, LaVera Mathews
and Florence Wright.
Visitation will be from 9 am
to 1 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home in
Newton.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary
will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with family receiving friends
following the Rosary.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30
a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Newton, with the Rev. Jim Mainzer as
Celebrant.
Interment will be at St. Mary
Cemetery in Newton.
