Jerry Vajnar
Jerry Vajnar, 92, died
Wednesday (June 18, 2008) at Newton Medical Center in Newton. He was born on Oct.
25, 1915, in Tampa, Kan., the son of Antone and Frantiska (Codle) Vajnar. Jerry married Mildred Holub on Oct.14, 1941,
in Pilsen. She died on Feb. 22, 2007. Together they farmed for many years, just
south of Tampa. Jerry also worked for the Hesston Corp. until his retirement in
1980. He enjoyed a good game of golf, shooting pool and polka dancing in his
previous years.
Jerry and Mildred enjoyed
traveling together and visited Europe, Hawaii and Canada.
He was a member of St. Mary
Catholic Church in Newton.
Survivors include two
daughters, Jane (Vajnar) Combs and husband, Pete, of Newton, and Vickie
(Vajnar) Kraus and husband, Don, of Marion; sons, Jerome and wife, Cindy, of
Austin, Texas, and Lynn and wife, Connie, of Newton; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
Also preceding him in death
were his parents; five sisters; and four brothers.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, with the family
receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m.
Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will follow at 10:30
a.m., also at the church.
Burial will follow at St.
Mary Catholic Church Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials may be made to St.
Mary Catholic Church, Father Kapaun Foundation or the Newton Senior Center.
