Virginia Davison
Obituary
Virginia Anne Davison, 82, loving wife,
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Friday (June
1, 2018).
Virginia was born June 6, 1935, in
Newton to Joseph Allen and Anna Gertrude (Umholtz) Hershberger. She
attended country schools in Zimmerdale, Chase County and Putman. In
1944, the family moved to Sedgwick, where she graduated from high
school in 1953.
She married Jerry Davison on June 25,
1955, in Sedgwick. Their children are Jerald (J.D.), Carol and Paul.
She was an employee of First National
Bank in Newton. She served on the USD 439 School Board for five and a
half years. Virginia was an active member of the Sedgwick United
Methodist Church, Emma Creek Quilt Guild, GFWC Amitie Club and her
special "little sewing group." She did most of her sewing
on a Singer treadle sewing machine.
Virginia enjoyed going to ball games,
sewing, reading, crocheting, playing Rook and Pitch card games,
canning produce from the garden, growing flowers, being a Cub Scout
Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader and serving in the church kitchen
Fall Festival Supper. She also enjoyed yearly trips to Branson in the
fall and other scenic trips.
Survivors include husband, Jerry of 62
years; brother, Joe Hershberger; sons, Jerald (J.D.) and wife Connie,
and Paul and his wife Diane; daughter, Carol Mies and husband Steve;
seven grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her
parents; brothers, Richard, Kenneth and Carl; and sisters, Alma
Ewert, Bonnie Jantz and Doris Jones.
A Celebration of Life Service will be
held at 10 a.m. Tuesday (June 5, 2018) at the Sedgwick United
Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday (June 4,
2018), with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home
in Newton.
