Erna Justina Fast
Erna Justina Fast, 95, died
Monday (June 23, 2008) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. She was born Dec. 13,
1912, in Mountain Lake, Minn., to David H. and Justina (Warkentin) Fast. Erna
graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1931, from Bethel College in North
Newton in 1943 with an A.B. degree, and from New York Biblical Seminary in 1946
with an M.R.E. degree. She served as a teacher in Minnesota public schools; as
a volunteer in Germany with Mennonite Central Committee; as director of
Christian education in Congregational churches in Vermont, Illinois and New
Mexico; as a consultant and field director of Christian education in the United
Presbyterian Church; YWCA administrator in Oakland, Calif., and Quincy, Ill.;
and program director of Friendship Meals for elderly in Hutchinson.
Ms. Fast formerly had been a
member of Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake since 1928 and had most
recently been a member of Hesston Mennonite Church in Hesston.
She is survived by her
sisters, Salome Holsinger and Elizabeth McBride, both of Hesston; brothers,
Marvin Fast of Springfield, Va., and Willard Fast of Indianapolis; as well as
numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by
her parents and one brother, F. David Fast.
Memorial service will be at
10 a.m. July 12 at Schowalter Villa Chapel in Hesston.
Memorial contributions may be
made to Mennonite Central Committee or the Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Fund
in care of the funeral home.
