He loved his old weekend farm in Elmdale on the Cottonwood River. He also enjoyed fishing with his family and friends, creating laughter and many old "fish" stories. He also enjoyed boating on Marion County Lake, where he resided.

Later in life, he enjoyed his farm at Goessel, gardening and his horses (the "girls"). He loved his pets, but the most beloved was his black lab Molly.
