Hope C. (Hinkle) Pearce
Hope C. (Hinkle) Pearce, 87,
passed away Monday (June 2, 2008) at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. She was
born in Wichita to Fred and Helen (Magee) Hinkle. She attended Wichita East
High School and graduated in 1938 in the top six of her class of 650 students.
She graduated from Phillips University in Enid, Okla., with a bachelor's degree
in child education. She married the Rev. James Pearce on July 14, 1944, in
Enid. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and longtime member of
Hillside Christian Church in Wichita.
She ministered alongside her
husband in many different locations, he from the pulpit, she in the youth
department. Some locations they called home during their ministry were
Lacrosse; Garden City; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Birmingham, Ala.; and Memphis,
Tenn.
Survivors include son, James
Pearce and wife, Elizabeth, of Whitewater; grandsons, Jared Pearce and wife,
Andrea, of Benton, and Douglas, Anthony, Randall and Loren, all of the home in
Whitewater; son, Marshall Pearce and wife, Heide, of Wichita; granddaughter,
Alicia Riley and husband, Jeff, and great-granddaughter Lily of Pierz, Minn.;
grandson Brett and granddaughter Rae Anne, both of the home in Wichita.
Visitation will be from 6 to
8 p.m. Wednesday at Lamb Funeral Home in Whitewater.
Church memorial service will
be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hillside Christian Church, 8330 E. Douglas in Wichita,
with Pastor Bill McConnel officiating.
Graveside service will be at
4 p.m. Thursday at Schafer Cemetery, east of Whitewater, with Laverne Busenitz
officiating.
Memorial contributions may be
made to the youth ministries department at Hillside Christian Church.
