Gilberta 'Bert' V. Hague
Gilberta 'Bert' V. Hague, 70,
of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center and formerly of Pollock and Herreid,
S.D., passed away Sunday (June 1, 2008) at St. Alexius Medical Center in
Bismarck, N.D., surrounded by loving family. Bert was born July 17, 1937, in
Valley Center, an only child to Gilbert and Zelda (Adler) Hughes. When her
father went to war in the Pacific Theater, Bert and her mother lived in Newton,
where she began school. After the war, the family moved to a farm in Peabody.
She attended county grade school and then high school in town, graduating from
Peabody High School in the class of 1955. Bert worked for one year as a dental
assistant for Dr. Jacobs in Peabody.
On June 3, 1956, Bert was
united in marriage to Robert (Bob) L. Hague, also of Peabody, at First United
Methodist Church. She married into a family of custom harvesters. For several
years, they would begin the annual trek of the 'harvest run' around Memorial
Day. They would sometimes start in the plains of north Texas, or near Enid,
Okla., and work their way north throughout the summer sometimes ending up in
the fall into Canada. There was not a more beautiful sight to either one of our
parents than an amber waving field of ripened wheat just waiting to be cut. The
great American Plains, the Heartland or 'breadbasket' of America was their
favorite place in all the land. In the fall of 1960, they purchased a farm at
Herreid, S.D., and there they raised livestock, grain and their family.
In December 1983, the Hagues
moved to Pollock and owned and operated the Lakeside Bar until Robert's death
in 1996. In May 2004, Bert moved to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in
Bismarck and resided there until shortly before her passing.
The last years were very
hard, but Mom always made the best of any situation and thoroughly enjoyed as
many activities at the care center as she could with the loving care provided
to her there. While at Herreid, the family was confirmed into Peace Lutheran
Church. Upon moving to Pollock, Bob and Bert were members of Pollock Lutheran
Church.
Bert is survived by three
children, Scott (Paulette) of Mandan, N.D., Kelly and fiancé Mike Daiker of
Pollock, and Dan of Herreid. Other survivors include daughter-in-law, Brenda
Hague of Mandan; seven grandchildren, Brandee, Rose, Luke and Blake Hague,
Kabrina (Jason) Haar and David Buechler, and Janie Hague; four
great-grandchildren, Taten, Hayleigh, Layla and Talen Haar; sister-in law,
Evelyn and husband, Marvin Kline of Peabody; sisters-in-law, Earlene and
Roberta Hague of Newton; and sister-in-law, Kay Hague (Mayhill) and Kay's
husband Max of Conroe, Texas.
Bert was preceded in death by
her parents and her husband.
A family service will be at 7
p.m. Wednesday at Pollock Lutheran Church in Pollock. A public funeral service
will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. David Smith
officiating. Public visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until the time of
service.
Her seven grandchildren will

service, and her cremains will be buried at a later date at Spring Valley
Cemetery, Pollock.
