Obituary
Harold Philip Morgan (Phil), of Grain
Valley, Missouri, passed away June 8, 2018, at St. Mary's Hospital in
Blue Springs, Missouri.
Phil was born on August 11, 1936 in
Independence, to Dr. Harold E. and Katherine A. Morgan. In 1940, Dr.
Morgan moved his young family and medical practice to Newton where
Phil attended grade school, middle school and then Newton High
School, graduating in 1954. On April 7, 1956, Phil married his high
school sweetheart, Shirley R. Clark while both were attending The
University of Kansas. He graduated in 1959 with a degree in
Journalism and remained a lifetime member of the KU Alumni
Association.
Phil spent his career working in radio
and television news until accepting a position at the Iowa
Development Commission in 1973 in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1982 he
retired as their Director of Travel and Tourism. Phil and Shirley's
retirement years were happily spent traveling throughout North
America "full-timing" in their RV. In 2006 they settled in
Grain Valley to stay close to family.
At Phil's request no funeral services
are being held. Graveside services with family were June 16 at
Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62
years, Shirley R. Morgan of the home, sons David (Sarah) Morgan,
Shawnee, Richard (Marcia) Morgan, Ocala, Florida, and Timothy (Jenny)
Morgan, Blue Springs, grandchildren Kyle (Kirsten) Morgan, Rachel
(Evan) Ferbezar, Grant Morgan, Jonathon (Amanda) Morgan, Nicholas
Morgan, Kristin (Tyson) Buerkle, Andrew Morgan, Bradley Morgan,
Benjamin Morgan, and great-granddaughter, Edan Morgan-Paul. He is
also survived by sister-in-laws Glenys (Richard) Kitching, Linda
(Cecil) Lane and brother-in-law Larry (Patricia) Clark.
