Obituary
Elda Pearle Penner, 100, died Thursday
(June 28, 2018) at Asbury Park in Newton.
She was born July 27, 1917 at Deer
Creek, Oklahoma, to Christian and Floy (Marston) Eberle. On July 26,
1942, she married Orville K. Penner at Deer Creek, Oklahoma, and he
preceded her in death on December 26, 2003.
She was a graduate of McPherson High
School and Bethel College. She moved to North Newton with her husband
and family in 1967. She was a long time active member of the Trinity
Heights United Methodist Church in Newton.
Elda was a school teacher retiring from
Chisholm Middle School in Newton.
She enjoyed keeping her mind active
with word games, Scrabble and crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed
folk art and painting. Elda enjoyed her personal collection of art
that she had acquired through the years.
Family and friends were important to
her and Elda loved to set a beautiful table and entertain her family
and friends with a delicious meal followed by homemade pie and a good
game of rummikub,
Elda is survived by her children:
Richard C. Penner of Modesto, California, Jeanette Dossi of
Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Sara Campbell of Wichita. Elda also is
survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her
husband; parents; brother Lawrence Eberle; and sisters Olga Sells,
Ruby Good Stanton and Doris Smart.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday
(July 2, 2018) at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church with Pastor
Donna Voteau presiding. Burial will preceded the funeral at 11 a.m.
at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m.
Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends
from 2 to 4 p.m.

Good Samaritan Fund or Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in
care of the funeral home.
