Lorraine M. Pederson

Lorraine Mackie Pederson (formerly Peterson), 86, of St. Paul, formerly of Newton and Chippewa Falls, Wis., died Thursday (May 15, 2008) at Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul.

She was born Jan. 29, 1922, in Grantsburg, Wis., to Nora Mae (Nelson) and Frank Henry Mackie. She graduated from Frederic High School in 1938 and attended Polk County Normal School in St. Croix Falls, where she received her teaching degree. Later she attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire to further her education.

In the early days of teaching, she taught grades one through eight in the town of Clam Falls in Polk County. In later years, she taught grade school in Grantsburg and then again as a substitute teacher for the Chippewa Falls School District.

She was a founder of the Lavella Club in Newton during the 1960s. She also was a member of the First United Methodist Church during her time in Newton.

Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Pam (John) Flaherty of Woodbury, Minn., and Denise (Tamara) Peterson of Long Lake, Minn.; and one granddaughter, Kim (Dan) Delmonico of Oakdale, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold Pederson; her sister, Lois Mackie; her brother, Lyle Mackie; and her special sister-in-law, Inez Mackie.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Fr. Robert B. Hoekstra, Chaplain of the Chippewa Manor Retirement Center officiating.

Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Grantsburg.
