Reed A. Roberts

Reed A. Roberts, 76, retired owner and operator of Roberts Wholesale Candy and Tobacco, died Tuesday (May 20, 2008) at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Oct. 30, 1931, in Mount Hope to Dell and Mable (Kasenberg) Roberts.

On Oct. 20, 1956, he married Barbara J. 'Jo' Mowbray at Cheney. She survives.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of American Legion Post No. 2 in Newton.

Survivors include daughters, Connie Wells, and husband, Ron, of Topeka, Rhonda Hinkle and husband, Mike, of Wichita, Donna Clanton and husband, Jack, of Newton and Lori Bean and husband, David, of Newton; brothers, Kale Roberts and Jerry Roberts, both of Wichita; sisters, Noreen Schneider of Isaquah, Wash., Colleen Smith of Newton, Kay Young of Paola, and Shirley Strausbaugh and Sheryl Hoffman of Spring Hill; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Halstead, with the Rev. Jennifer Whitt officiating.

Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mount Hope.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
