Harold L. Jackson
Harold L. Jackson, 87, died
Wednesday (April 2, 2008) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 11, 1920, in
Cottonwood Falls to Roy L. and Alice (Steadman) Jackson. They preceded him in
death.
He graduated from Strong City
Rural High School in 1940 and from Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina in
1941. He worked for 39 years for ATSF Railway and retired as assistant to the
superintendent in Newton in June 1980.
He married Lucile Krehbiel on
Sept. 5, 1942, in Newton.
Harold was a member of Bethel
College Mennonite Church in North Newton. He was a member of the Newton Lions
Club for 40 years and served as treasurer. He enjoyed any time spent with
family and friends, and he was an accomplished woodworker.
Survivors include his wife of
65 years, Lucile, of North Newton; two daughters, Lois (John) Balthrop and
Leanne (Richard) Klassen, both of Newton; son, Thomas (Gayle) of North Newton;
brother, John R. Jackson of Strong City; sister, Irene Schwilling of Sedona,
Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will be present
for visitation from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Menno Hall on the campus of Kidron
Bethel Village, 3001 Ivy Dr. in North Newton.
Memorial service will be at 3
p.m. Monday at Bethel College Mennonite Church.
Memorial contributions may be
made to Camp Mennoscah in care of Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, which is in
charge of arrangements.
